by Shaun Amyot, Artistic Staff, Canada’s National Ballet School
My name is Shaun Amyot and I am a member of the Artistic Staff at Canada’s National Ballet School.
I have been very busy organizing and casting for our Assemblée Internationale, the November event which is part of our 50th Anniversary celebrations.
After watching the DVD’s of the student choreographies from our partner schools, I have to say I am thoroughly impressed by the level of talent from both the dancers and the choreographers. It is very exciting to see it all come together (at least on paper). With all of the specific information I have about the international students who will be here in November, I have compiled an international cast for each of the student choreographies. I have done my best to take into account the style of each ballet, whether it is on pointe or in soft shoes and the dynamics of each piece.
Although I have been working with a range of details about the dancers, from extremely specific to none at all, I am confident that each School’s training is so strong that all the dancers will be up to the challenges that this unique project entails. I look forward to meeting our 94 visiting dancers and their staff this November!
